The Emigrants - 2015
Production notesIn the 1930s and 1940s, Hollywood was the place where Edward Steichen invented his famous celebrity style, a genuine new way of making portraits that soon should influence photography and magazine publishing around the world.
The Emigrants captures the flavor, adds a touch of film noir and tells the story of a couple leaving home in search of a better future. Set in the early 20th century and shot on location in an apartment with period furniture and decoration, the series focuses on despair and determination in the struggle to find a way out of a deadlock situation. The pictures were produced with expired Kodak TriX 400 film and original Fresnel spotlights that were used for 1940s Hollywood movies.
